Bach’s Inspiration

Holy Family Roman Catholic Church (Toronto Oratory)

Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2pm

Prelude and Fugue in D, BWV 552
Buxtehude: Toccata in D Minor, BuxWV 155
…and more!

In 1705 Bach traveled more than 250 miles on foot to visit the organist Dietrich Buxtehude in Lübeck. Captivated by Buxtehude’s work, he stayed far longer than anticipated and incurred the wrath of his employers back home. Was it worth it? Come judge for yourself as Rachel Mahon presents a diverse collection of pieces which show how Bach admired and was inspired by other composers. As the youngest and very first female organ scholar at St. Paul’s cathedral in London, Mahon continues to invigorate interest in her instrument on the world stage. Join us in welcoming this brilliant young Canadian home, for what promises to be the most important recital of the season.

Tickets are available for purchase online & at the door, one half hour before each performance.
